
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Journey Through Identity Exhibition
We are seeking 2D and 3D art, short pieces of prose, and poetry that:

Explore themes of personal identity from a queer perspective

Depict the diverse lived experiences and self-expression of members of the LGBTQIA+ community

Are creatively influenced by your identity as LGBTQIA+
Exhibition Dates: Friday, June 12 – Sunday, July 20, 2026
Application Deadline: Sunday, May 17, 2026

We Want to Hear From You If:

You are an LGBTQIA+ artist (special consideration for trans, non-binary, and BIPOC artists)
-
You have created prose, poetry, or art as part of your personal journey exploring and understanding your gender identity or sexuality
-
Your writing or art depicts aspects of the LGBTQIA+ lived experience
Applications from openly trans, non-binary, and BIPOC community members are warmly welcomed, in line with VALA’s commitment to uplifting marginalized voices. For closeted members of the LGBTQIA+ community, VALA provides the option to submit under a pseudonym or anonymously.

Writing Specifications

Original short stories, personal essays, or poems (approximately 1,000 words or less, or up to two letter-sized pages in 12-point font)

Work must be professionally printed and presented on high-quality cardstock or framed

Font size must be 12-point or larger
Art Specifications / Gallery Artwork Requirements

All work must be original, and the artist must own the sole copyright
-
Frames, mats, and wiring must be of professional quality and in good condition
-
No sawtooth hangers; wiring must be securely fastened with D-rings and able to support the weight of the artwork
-
2D artwork selected for exhibition must be ready to hang
-
3D artwork must include a mount if needed
-
Not-for-sale artwork will be considered for the show
-
All sales and inquiries will be handled directly by the artist
-
Artists retain 100% commission on all exhibition sales
