SOMATIC EKPHRASIS PERFORMANCE:
MOVEMENT AND POETRY IN RESPONSE TO ART

Following Founder's Talk | Saturday January 31st, 2026
Redmond Association of Spokenword (RASP) board member, Kari Tai, presents a somatic ekphrasis of one of the "Founder’s Collection" works. She will perform movements based on a poem she wrote inspired by the visceral words that arise for her when viewing the "Founder’s Collection" works.

WORKSHOP: SOMATIC EKPHRASIS

A QUIET WAY OF LISTENING:
MOVEMENT AND POETRY IN RESPONSE TO ART

2:00-3:00pm | Saturday February 21st, 2026
RASP board member Kari Tai will guide VALA visitors through creating a similar-style verbal response to one of the exhibit’s works by focusing on the bodily, visceral, or physical experience of engaging with the art. We will play with translating visual, tactile, or emotional sensations from art into language. Then the participants who feel “moved” to do so will create simple gestures that represent some of the key words from their writing. No previous writing or movement experience required.
